History of the Museumplein
The Museum Square was named after the opening of the Rijksmuseum in 1885. Just before the opening of the Rijksmuseum in 1883 the world exhibition took place, which gave the city a huge boost. Tourism was booming and Amsterdam was quickly established as a real metropolis.
